Christmas Stocking Accordion Booklet: How Does it Feel?

The stockings are hung by the chimney with care...and they're all different textures! Children will love feeling the different materials used to decorate each stocking in this festive booklet. The pages open up accordion style to reveal a row of stockings hanging from the mantelpiece. These booklets can be assembled for children to read and enjoy or children can make their own.

Preschool Activities:

Circle Activity:

In advance, fill different Christmas stockings with one material. Discuss with children that they can use their hands to feel the textures of things. Take a stocking and let children put one hand inside the stocking to feel the material inside without saying anything. When all children have had a chance to feel the material, let them describe the texture they felt. Was it soft, smooth, slippery, prickly, rough, warm, or cool? Tape the matching descriptive words on the stocking. Continue with the other stockings.

Place stockings in on the sensory table for children to use during play time.
