The importance of instilling the concept of...
Children will love to help the chick hatch from the egg with this simple chick hatching activity and craft (our inspitation for this craft came from here). Use the craftivity to talk about how the chick grows inside the egg. Here is a great video to watch together before the activity:
From Egg to Chick Video
You will need:
Brown butcher paper or brown craft paper
White craft paper
Orange craft paper
Yellow paint
Black paint
Paintbrush
Scissors
Glue
What you do:
Draw an egg outline on brown wrapping paper and cut out the egg. Make a small cut in the area of the beak.
Next, draw an egg outline slightly smaller than the brown egg shape on to a piece of white craft paper. Hand out the paper to the children.
Ask children to use their fingers to paint a yellow circle for the egg yolk inside the egg outline. Explain that the chick starts to develop inside the egg yolk. Explain that the egg yolk contains the food source for the chick while its growing inside the egg. One of the first things to develop is the heart. After the yellow paint has dried, have children make a small black spot inside the yellow egg yolk with a black marker.
Explain that the chick is growing inside the egg until it barely fits. Invite children to color the inside of the egg with yellow paint with their fingers. Let dry.
Next, cut out an orange triangle and fold in half.
Fold two side flaps up.
Add glue to the flaps and let children glue the beak on the yellow egg so that the beak is slightly lifted.
Let children make fingerprints to add eyes with black paint.
Add glue to the outline of the brown egg and glue on top of the chick. Let dry.
Invite children to help the chick hatch from the egg by tearing open a piece of the paper to reveal part of the chick inside the egg.
Wake up little chick, wake up little chick
Move around, move around
Give a little tick, tick
And a little peck, peck
Welcome to the world, welcome to the world.
