Hearts Groundhog Craft

What you need:
Groundhog Heart Pattern printables
Heart Groundhog Craft Step-by-Step printable
Brown craft paper
White craft paper
Blue craft paper
Yellow craft paper
Small wiggly eyes
Scissors
Glue
Black marker
Small plastic baggies

What you do:
Print the Groundhog Heart Patterns, including writing prompt. Cut out the hearts and trace the seven largest hearts onto brown craft paper. Trace the smallest heart onto black craft paper and the next to smallest heart onto white craft paper. Print the Heart Groudhog Craft Step-by-Step Instructions. Label the hearts from largest to smallest with the numbers 1-7. Make one set of hearts per child and place each set in a small plastic bag. Print the Heart Groundhog Step-by-Step Instructions.

Instructions:
Ask children to place their hearts in order from largest to smallest.

Let children point to and pick the third heart (number 3) and the largest heart (number 1). Ask children to glue the largest heart (number 1) upside down on the blue craft paper. Then, have them glue heart number 3 on top (see first image below). Next, have children find the number 2 heart. Have them glue this heart upside down on top of hearts 1 and 3 (see second image below).

Next, have children find hearts number 4 and 5 and glue them to each side of the largest heart. Have them glue heart number 6, the white heart, upside down at the base of the heart forming the head to make the groundhog's teeth. Have them glue heart number 7, the black heart, above the white heart to make the groundhog's nose.

Let children glue wiggly eyes and draw claws and whiskers on their groundhogs.

Trim the writing prompts and glue one to the bottom of each child's groundhog picture. Read the incomplete sentence and tell children that they will write a prediction on the lines to complete the sentence. Have children decorate their pictures with suns and shadows if they predict that yes, the goundhog will see his shadow. Have children decorate their pictures with clouds if they predict that no, the groundhog will not see his shadow.
