What You Need:
Pete the Cat Shape Patterns printable (members only)
Blue craft paper
Yellow or white craft paper
Red craft paper
Orange craft paper
Blue marker or crayon
Black marker
Large envelope (optional)
Glue
Scissors
What you do:
Print the Pete the Cat Shape Patterns and trace on to blue craft paper. Trace eyes on to orange craft paper and shoes on to red craft paper. Make a set for each child and place the pieces inside a large envelope.
Hand out a set of Pete the Cat shapes to each child. Look at the shapes together with children and have them name each shape. Look at the half circle together and explain that this shape is half of a circle. Place two half circles together to make a circle.
Using the script below, instruct children to follow the steps to make the Pete the Cat picture together:
First, let’s take the large rectangle and glue it to the middle of the yellow craft paper.
Next, let's find the four small rectangles. These are Pete the Cat’s legs. Let’s glue them to the bottom of the large rectangle.
Do you remember what Pete the Cat was wearing? Yes, he was wearing shoes. Let’s glue a shoe to each leg.
Now, we need to make his head. Which shape do you think is for the head? Yes, the half circle is Pete the Cat’s head. Glue the half circle to the top right of the blue rectangle.
Next, we’ll glue the two triangle ears on top of his head.
Now, let's glue the oval eyes to Pete's head and use the black marker to finish his eyes and to draw his nose, whiskers, and mouth.
Finally, let's draw the tail with a blue marker or crayon.
