Paintbrushes
Chart paper
Black marker
Green paint and paint in bright colors
Small paper plates or trays
Colorful puff balls, buttons and/or bottle caps

What you do:
Print the Flower Box Pattern and Poem onto heavy card stock and make one copy per child. Cut each copy in half, ending up with half sheets marked with flower boxes and half sheets marked with poems. Cut the tissue paper into small pieces and set aside.
Step 1
Give each child a half sheet with a flower box outline. Have children collage tissue paper pieces inside the outline using liquid starch and paintbrushes. Watered down glue can be used in place of the liquid starch.
Step 2:
Once collages dry, have children cut out their flower box collages. Print the Mother's Day poem on chart paper and read it together with children. Give each child a half sheet with the printed poem. Have children cut out their poems and glue them to the fronts of their flower box cut-outs.

A box of flowers just for you,
Made from fingers, paint, and glue.
Because I love you, yes I do.
Happy Mother’s Day from you know who!
Step 3:
Trace one Flower Box outline onto white construciton paper for each child. Show children how to dip their fingers in green paint and press them vertically, one at a time, along the top of a flower box outline to make flower stems. Have them glue puff balls to the tops of their stems to make the centers of flowers.
Then, show them how to use their fingertips to make petals around each flower center.
Once paint dries, have each child glue their collaged flower boxes with poems over the flower box outlines on their fingerprint flower paintings to complete their Mother’s Day artworks.
